My Furry Mommy confession

The Memoirs of Megan
My confession this week is a little different than normal, for me at least. Ready to hear it??

I vacuum my dog.

Yes, I'm talking about that little contraption with the hoses and the brushs that suck up dirt and crap off your floor. I use one on my dog.

This is Major.

He's our 125 pound baby (even though he's 7 yrs old, he's still my baby). He's big, he's adorably sweet, he's clutzy and he's afraid of everything. EVERYTHING. Empty boxes, loud noises, water, toys that move and vacuums.

He HATES the vacuum. His tail tucks between his leg, he runs around like a crazed lunatic, he traps himself in the corner. I have to chase him out of every room I vacuum before I start.

He also sheds. Like crazy. Hair on everything. I can fill a brown paper bag with hair during one brushing and there is still hair coming off. It never, ever ends. Ever.

One day I was vacuuming with the hose attachment and Major was laying on the couch looking for the best escape route. I noticed loose hair all over him, so I thought, what the hell and I started to vacuum him.

At first he was terrified and looked at me like I was the worst puppy Mom ever. I felt guilty, but not guilty enough to stop. I switched attachments to one of the "pet hair" attachments that came with the vacuum that doesn't work for crap. It has little rubber nobbys to grab the hair and a spinny brush to help do something else that doesn't really do crap either.

He actually started to enjoy it. Plus, it was removing hair. The attachment is good for something!

So there you have it. I vacuum my dog. I obviously still brush him, but when I'm cleaning the living room, I also give him a quick vacuum. He's still afraid of the vacuum in floor form, but he quite likes the attachment now.

Don't worry. He still loves me.
.

So there. Now you know my deepest secret. Don't judge.

    1. We really didn't expect him to get to 125. He's a Rottweiler/lab mix so size was kind of up in the air when we got him at 6 months. He takes up a lot of space! He's become pretty used to the vacuuming of him, now only if he would get over me cleaning the floors!
      Thanks for following! :)

  2. That is funny! I didn't know you vacuumed your dog. Kolbie is terrified of the vacuum. I've thought about vacuuming him. Maybe more out of revenge then getting up the dog hair. ;)

    1. Well it's not really something that has came up in our conversations before.

    1. It works surprisingly well! No hair floating around in the air, no bags of hair to throw away. It's a win/win really.

  4. I used to vacuum my rabbit, because she would constantly shed. I get it. :)

    1. I knew I couldn't be the only one who has thought about vacuuming a pet!

    1. You gonna try it on your dog? Aren't you allergic to him (her?)? Maybe it will help your allergies. ;)

  6. I hate the hair! its one of the things keeping me from getting a dog (and the thought of potty training a 2 year old and a dog makes me want to gag.)

  7. I hate the hair, but love my dog! Luckily we got him when I was changing diapers, but I don't think I would want to potty train a dog and a kid at the same time either!

  8. OMFG THIS IS THE BEST IDEA EVERRRRRRRRR!!!! Our dog sheds like crrraaaazy and it drives us bananas. My husband is obsessed with vacuuming and does it at least 2-3 times a week, and there's still dog hair tumbleweeds blowing through our house all the time. I'm totally, totally trying this sometime. This is probably my fave pet parent confession we've had!

Thank you for linking up with us!

    1. Yes! It never ends! I vacuum daily and we still have hair every where. I love the big guy, but some days I wonder if it's ok to shave a Rottweiler. Try it! It'll probably work wonders!
